The LA Galaxy have begun their offseason retooling, announcing the signing of Norwegian defender Jorgen Skjelvik on a free transfer from Rosenborg on Thursday.

The 26-year-old, a left back, will join the Galaxy from Rosenborg, where he played for four and a half seasons, winning two league titles and a Norwegian Cup with the club in that span. He also played in the Europa League for the Norwegian side. Getting his start at Stabaek, where he came through the youth ranks, Skjelvik has also played in Sweden for Helsingborg and Kalmar prior to joining Rosenborg.

He is also a Norwegian international, having seven senior caps with his country.

“Jorgen has been a key player on multiple title-winning teams and has his best years of soccer in front of him,” said LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid in a team statement. “He has experience playing at a very high level for club and country and he can immediately strengthen our backline. We are excited to welcome him to Los Angeles and look forward to Jorgen representing the LA Galaxy.”

Ashley Cole was the Galaxy's starter at left back in 2017, but is currently out of contract.
