BBC: Carl Robinson an intriguing candidate for Wales national team job

Carl Robinson - Vancouver Whitecaps - October 25, 2017

The US national team may not be the only federation to consider MLS candidates for an international managerial job.

Vancouver Whitecaps boss Carl Robinson could be an intriguing option for the Wales national team, writes Michael Pearlman of BBC Wales Sport.

Robinson is clearly not a favorite on a list of potential candidates that includes former Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs and longtime Premiership veteran Craig Bellamy.

But Pearlman notes that Robinson was popular among Welsh supporters because of his dedication to the national team as a player between 1999 and 2009.

And he says Robinson's relative success with Vancouver ā€“ without some of the big-name signings of some MLS clubs recently ā€“ could make him attractive for a country that also has to do less with more in UEFA qualifying for the European Championships and FIFA World Cup.

The Whitecaps have made the playoffs in three of Robinson's four seasons in charge, reaching the Conference Semifinals twice. They also won their first Canadian Championship in 2015.
