I'd like to announce that I will not be a member of the Chicago Fire for the 2018 season. Thanks for these two years of my career and best of luck to all my teammates who stay at the club.— João Meira (@joaomeira06) November 18, 2017

The 30-year-old center back played a major role for Chicago in his two seasons with the club, appearing in 58 regular season matches and making 53 total starts in 2016 and 2017.
He was a key part of the Fire’s turnaround in 2017, forming a solid partnership with fellow center back Johan Kappelhof as Chicago finished with the third best regular season record in MLS one year after finishing dead last in the league.
