The US and Canadian national teams – and their counterparts everywhere else on the globe – could see an end to most international friendlies under a proposal from UEFA to replace exhibition matches with a worldwide "Global Nations League" that would compete every odd-numbered year.

The proposed league, which would be structured in multiple tiers according to FIFA World Rankings, with promotion and relegation between the tiers.

The European confederation is already launching a continental league, the UEFA Nations League, which is set to begin play in Fall 2018.
