New England Revolution 1, Montreal Impact 0 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution kept their playoff hopes alive, thanks to Lee Nguyen.

The veteran midfielder took a pass from Teal Bunbury, worked free and put the ball just inside the post in the 68th minute, lifting the Revs to a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Impact on Saturday night. Add in Cody Cropper's eighth shutout of the season, and New England have back-to-back victories for the first time since July 22-29.

With the victory, New England -- who have won their last five matches at home -- stayed in eighth place in the Eastern Conference but pulled within one point of the Impact, who lost their third straight and missed their chance to climb above the playoff line.

Three Things

  • HE'S GOOD: The Revs got a scare late in the match when defender Claude Dielna went down holding his right thigh -- and with manager Jay Heaps having already used all his substitutes. Dielna was able to come back on and finish the match, though, meaning New England didn't have to play the last three minutes of regular time and five minutes of stoppage time down a man.
  • LOW IMPACT: What happened to Montreal's offense? In a four-match winning streak from Aug. 5-19, they outscored their opponents 11-2. But over the course of their current three-match losing skid, they've been outscored 5-1 -- 4-1 in two home matches, at that. On Saturday, they forced just two saves from Cropper.
  • CUE EARTH, WIND & FIRE: September has been a great month for New England at Gillette Stadium in recent seasons. After Saturday night's victory, they haven't lost a home game in September since 2013.
