Diego Valeri ties MLS record with goal in seventh straight match

Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri tied an MLS record just before halftime in the Bronx vs New York City FC on Saturday, scoring a goal in his seventh straight match.

The goal, his 17th of the season, came after Timbers striker Darren Mattocks muscled Andrea Pirlo off the ball in his own third and fed across to an unmarked Valeri near the penalty spot. The Argentine settled the ball and calmly chose a corner, making no mistake with the finish.

The Timbers have only one loss during Valeri's streak, and find themselves in second place in the Western Conference after charging up the table with only six games left in the regular season. Valeri is tied for second in the MLS Golden Boot race, two behind leader David Villa.
