Chicago Fire 1, Minnesota United FC 2 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

A first-half brace by Abu Danladi helped lift Minnesota United FC to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire Saturday night at Toyota Park.

Danladi struck first in the 36th minute, tapping in an Ethan Finlay cross after the ball deflected off a sliding Johan Kappelhof.

The Ghanaian forward struck again nine minutes later, sliding in to latch onto Jerome Thiesson cross at the edge of the six-yard box.

Bastian Schweinsteiger tried to take his team on his back in the second half and played a terrific through ball to David Accam, who finished inside the far netting to cut the Fire within a goal in the 77th minute.

While the Loons celebrated their first road win of the season, the Fire dropped their fourth straight loss.

Three Things

  1. FOUR-ALARM FIRE: Is it time to panic yet for Chicago? The Fire have extended their season-long losing streak to four games with games at the red-hot Montreal Impact (winners of four straight ahead of Sunday’s 401 Derby with Toronto FC) and home to the New York Red Bulls, which have two losses in their last eight games, on the horizon.
  2. ANOTHER FIRST FOR LOONS: The first goal was scored by Christian Ramirez late in a 5-1 season-opening loss to the Portland Timbers and the first victory was on April 1, 4-2 over Real Salt Lake. It took 11 tries, but on Saturday night Minnesota United added their first road win in their first year in MLS.
  3. DANDADI DOES IT: On a night when two Ghanaians scored, it was the Loons No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft who was the difference maker. Abu Danladi struck for his first MLS brace to increase his season total to five goals. Also Minnesota United improved to 4-0 when Danladi finds the back of the net.
