Half of punk band Rancid turn out as honorary captains in RSL vs. SJ

Branden Steineckert with Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando - August 23, 2017

We've pretty much detailed at length on this site how about half of legendary punk rock act Rancid are superfans of their hometown MLS teams. Both drummer Branden Steineckert and founder/guitarist Lars Frederiksen have now penned official anthems for their clubs, Real Salt Lake and the San Jose Earthquakes, respectively.

(We recounted the story of Steineckert's "Believe" a while back; meanwhile Frederiksen's official "Never Say Die" music video for the Quakes just came out yesterday.)

So when the band was in Real Salt Lake during their tour run, both Steineckert and Frederiksen decided to take this intra-band rivalry onto the pitch -- both served as honorary team captains during last night's match at the RioT.

Perhaps RSL drew strength from their celeb captain, because they topped the Quakes 4-0, but either way, before that final result, everyone looked stoked. Let's check out some of the proceedings.
