New York City FC's Jack Harrison wins Alcatel MLS Player of the Week

Jack Harrison recorded the first multi-goal game of his professional career on Saturday, leading New York City FC to an important, come-from-behind 3-2 win at Columbus Crew SC.

He picked up some recognition for his effort on Tuesday, when it was announced that he was voted Alcatel MLS Player of the Week for Week 9 of the MLS season by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).

Harrison got things going early for NYCFC, scoring in the eighth minute to give New York a 1-0 advantage. Maxi Moralez started the play, taking off on a mazy run through midfield before finding Harrison behind the Columbus defense in the right side of the area with a well-timed throughball. The 20-year-old took it from there, expertly chipping a shot over Zack Steffen and in to put NYCFC ahead.

Harrison completed his brace with the game tied at 2-2 in the 76th minute. Yangel Herrera capitalized on a Crew SC defensive error to win the ball back deep in Columbus territory, finding a wide open Harrison in the box for a slotted finish that gave NYCFC all three points.

NYCFC and Harrison will return home on Sunday, when they’ll host expansion team Atlanta United FC in a high-profile contest at Yankee Stadium (4 pm ET; Univision in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
