Portland's Darlington Nagbe wins MLS AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 8

It came down to the wire, but Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe won MLS AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 8.

Nagbe narrowly edged out Montreal midfielder Ignacio Piatti, taking home 49 percent of the vote to Piatti’s 47 percent. Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco recorded 3 percent of the tally for his free kick goal against Chicago and NYCFC’s David Villa tallied 2 percent of the vote for his strike against Orlando.

Nagbe won the honor for his outrageous strike in the Timbers’ 2-1 win against Vancouver last Saturday.

The US international collected a pass in the middle of the attacking third, weaving to his right around Whitecaps midfielder Matias Laba and defender Kendall Waston before rocketing a dipping 20-yarder over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper David Ousted, off the crossbar and in to give Portland a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

The 26-year-old now has two goals and three assists in seven games for the first-place Timbers. Portland will return to action on Saturday night, when they’ll take on FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium in a battle of two of the top teams in MLS (8 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
