2017 Team of the Week (Wk 8): Orlando, Toronto earn plaudits for big wins

Orlando City SC were the darlings of MLS entering Week 8, sitting in second in the East and riding a perfect 4-0-0 home record to the best points per game mark in the league.

They’d impressed, but one major question loomed over the Lions: Could they do it on the road?

The answer, at least on Sunday, was a resounding yes.

Orlando emerged from Yankee Stadium with an impressive 2-1 win over New York City FC, with former NYCFC head coach Jason Kreis leading his new team to a third-straight victory. The Lions got some love for their performance on Monday with three MLS Team of the Week selections.

Orlando forward Cyle Larin, who had a brace on Sunday, goalkeeper Joe Bendik and defender Donny Toia all earned a spot on the Week 8 squad. 2016 MLS Cup finalist Toronto FC also had three selections after turning in their best performance of the season in a 3-1 win against Chicago on Friday in forward Sebastian Giovinco, midfielder Michael Bradley and defender Eriq Zavaleta.

Seattle put attackers Clint Dempsey and Nicolas Lodeiro on for their performances in the Sounders’ dominant 3-0 win at LA on Sunday. Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almiron, FC Dallas midfielder Carlos Gruezo and New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long rounded out the XI after their three teams won on Saturday night.
