Three MLS players to square off in Africa Cup of Nations semifinals

Columbus Crew SC's Harrison Afful in action for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup - June 24, 2016

At least one MLS player will advance to the Africa Cup of Nations Final, as Montreal Impact outside back Ambroise Oyongo and Cameroon are set to battle with Columbus Crew SC defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The winner of the Cameroon-Ghana match will take on the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Burkina Faso and Egypt in the title match on Sunday.

Afful has played every minute of Ghana’s run to the semifinals, while Mensah, signed by Columbus this offseason as a Designated Player, went the full 90 for the Black Stars in their loss to Egypt in the group stage finale.

Like Afful, Oyongo has played every minute for Cameroon at the tournament. The 25-year-old successfully converted a penalty in the Indomitable Lions’ 0-0 (5-4) shootout win against Senegal in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
