Kevin Doyle, Rapids bullish on reaching MLS Cup: "It's in our own hands"

How optimistic are the Colorado Rapids about reaching MLS Cup 2016?

After grabbing an away goal in Seattle to take back to their mile-high fortress at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday, they have no excuses not to win the Western Conference Championship, striker Kevin Doyle told the Denver Post this week.

Though the Sounders launched a comeback to gain a 2-1 win in the first leg of the series on Tuesday, the deflected strike Doyle netted to open the scoring at CenturyLink Field looms large heading into Sunday's second and decisive leg (4 pm ET, ESPN, TSN2). A 1-0 win for the stingy Rapids – a winning scoreline they racked up seven times this season, and once more in the playoffs as they edged the LA Galaxy in the Conference Semifinal round – would see them through to the title bout on Dec. 10.

“We were very happy to get that away goal,” said Doyle. “We feel like it’s in our own hands [on Sunday]. If we don’t [advance], we’ve no one to blame but ourselves.”
