New England Revolution sign Kelyn Rowe to contract extension

The New England Revolution locked up one of their most important attacking pieces on Friday, when they announced that they signed midfielder Kelyn Rowe to a contract extension.

Rowe, 24, is in his fifth season with the Revolution. In 30 MLS appearances this season, he’s recorded five goals and seven assists, second on the team in both categories.

“Kelyn is an incredibly versatile young talent and he’s established himself as an integral part of the Revolution,” New England GM Michael Burns said in a statement released by the club. “We look forward to seeing him continue to be a key contributor on the field and making a significant impact in years to come.”

The third overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Rowe has 27 goals and 31 assists in 153 regular season appearances, 118 of which have been starts. He’s added one goal and two assists in seven career playoff games and six goals in 12 US Open Cup appearances.

One of just seven players in New England history to record 25 career goals and 25 career assists, Rowe was named the Revolution’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2014 and 2015.

Rowe and the seventh-place Revolution, who are currently four points behind D.C. United for the sixth and final playoff spot in the East, will host Sporting Kansas City on Saturday (7:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
