Montreal Impact's Laurent Ciman starts for Belgium in UEFA Euro 2016 opener

Belgium dropped their Group E opener to Italy, 2-0, on goals by Emanuele Giaccherini (32') and Graziano Pellè (90'). Ciman played 76 minutes before Yannick Carrasco replaced him, logging 1 tackle, 5 clearances, 1 blocks and 6 ball recoveries in Belgium's 1st Euro appearance since 2000.

A familiar, yet somehow unfamiliar sight for MLS fans as the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament opens group play: Reigning MLS Defender of the Year Laurent Ciman (Montreal Impact) is in the starting lineup for Belgium  but at right back, as opposed to his usual spot in central defense.

A late add to Belgium's final roster, Ciman joins a tight list of MLSers – but the third this year – to make the starting XI in European championship play, per ESPN stats guru Paul Carr:
