Jozy Altidore happy to change his playing style for Sebastian Giovinco

Jozy Altidore for Toronto FC

Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore may be a prominent goalscorer in his own right, but he's fine with taking on a different role so 2015 MLS MVP striker Sebastian Giovinco can shine.

"I think I'm in a unique position," Altidore said in an interview with ESPN. "I think if you look around the league in the past, yeah, I'm a striker, but I'm playing with one of the most special talents this league's ever seen, and you've got to change your game a little bit if you want to play alongside a talent like that and still find a way help the team. And I'm doing that.

"I'm going to score goals too, but that side of it is a part of me that I have to give to the team to make sure the team's successful."

The US international is clearly willing to share the spotlight – last weekend, Altidore, who is yet to find the net in five appearances this year, drew a penalty against the Montreal Impact. Instead of taking it for himself, he pointed to Giovinco to take it. The Italian international buried it and Altidore called it "the job of any teammate."

Toronto FC will return to action Sunday in Portland against the Timbers at 3:30 pm ET (ESPN, TSN4, RDS2, MLS LIVE).
