It could have been worse – but it was not pretty.

Colorado Rapids Designated PlayerKevin Doyle suffered an injury to his calf during Ireland's 1-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Friday.

The injury occurred on a challenge in the 22nd minute of the game:

The subsequent photo of the injury as tweeted out by Doyle revealed a deep wound in his leg. Warning: The sight is not for the faint of heart.

Doyle reported in the same tweet that the injury required a "bit of surgery" but he seems relieved it wasn't as bad as initially feared.

No word yet on how long Doyle will be sidelined while recovering from the injury.
