The Portland Timbers announced on Monday that they have signed striker Fanendo Adi to a contract extension using Targeted Allocation Money.

Adi joined Portland in June 2014 on a Designated Player deal from Danish club FC Copenhagen. The 25-year-old is the leading scorer in the Timbers’ MLS era, scoring 26 goals in 59 regular-season appearances with the club.

Adi had a break out year in 2015, recording 16 goals and three assists in 33 regular season appearances. He added two goals and an assist in the 2015 playoffs, playing every minute in all six of Portland’s matches on their march to the MLS Cup title.

The Nigerian forward, who recently received a call-up to his country’s national team, has one goal in two games this season, scoring in the Timbers’ 2-1 opening-day win over Columbus Crew SC.
