Blas Perez - FC Dallas - Close up

The rumors that Panamanian international Blas Perez is on his way to the Vancouver Whitecaps are heating up in a big way.

The Whitecaps confirmed on Wednesday that Perez was at the teamā€™s training camp in Arizona while the club works on a deal to bring Perez to Vancouver in exchange for the rights to midfielder Mauro Rosales ā€“ but no deal is yet done.

ā€œWe are working on a deal with Dallas, as well as Blas, but felt it was important to have him here in Tucson, training with the guys, as soon as possible,ā€ head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement.

ā€œBlas is a proven goal-scorer,ā€ Robinson added. ā€œEverywhere he plays, he scores goals, competes, and has a natural hunger to win.ā€

Perez, 34, is out of contract with FC Dallas, but his former club still controls his MLS rights.

He had been a key piece for Dallas over the years, scoring 36 goals in 97 regular season games from 2012 through last season. According to the Whitecaps, his four career goals against Vancouver are tied for third-most the club has conceded to one player in MLS play.

Meanwhile, Vancouver also welcomed their latest signing, Costa Rican international midfielder Christian BolaƱos, for the first time to train with his new teammates on Wednesday.
