Report: New York Red Bulls' Matt Miazga headed to Chelsea FC within 24 hours

Matt Miazga, New York Red Bulls

By this time tomorrow, New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga should be signed with Chelsea in the English Premier League, according to a new media report.

Miazga, who has recently broken into the U.S. men's national team as his stock rises rapidly, is ready to make the move overseas now rather than wait for his contract with New York to end after this season, according to ESPNFC.

The 20-year-old center back was in camp with the USMNT in preparation for friendlies against Iceland on Sunday and Canada on next Friday, but he has left early to head to England, the report says. Upon arrival, he will undergo a medical evaluation and then join his new club.

Rumors of Miazga's interest in trying his luck over in Europe popped up in December after reports that Chelsea and other English teams were tracking him. Since he has a Polish passport, he wouldn't need to obtain a UK work permit.

Miazga has been a staple of the youth national team program, representing the US in the U-20 World Cup last year, and he broke into the senior USMNT in November in a World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

He started his pro career by rising through the ranks of the Red Bulls youth academy, which he joined in 2009. At 18, he signed a Homegrown Player contract in 2013 and has since appeared in 38 matches for New York.
