LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes to meet in Las Vegas for February friendly; Galaxy to host Tijuana

Steven Gerrard dribbles - LA Galaxy vs. San Jose Earthquakes

The California Clasico will be taking a brief detour east this preseason, as the LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes announced on Monday that they’ll face off in friendly in Las Vegas in February.

The Galaxy and the Quakes will meet at Cashman Field, the home of the New York Mets’ AAA affiliate, on Saturday, Feb. 13. The match will be just the second time the Western Conference rivals will meet outside of California; the first came in 2001, when the Quakes beat the Galaxy at MLS Cup in Columbus.

The Galaxy will play another high-profile opponent earlier that week, as they’ll host Liga MX side Club Tijuana, led by fiery manager Miguel Herrera, on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at StubHub Center. Both matches will serve as prep for the Galaxy’s CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series against Santos Laguna, which will kick off on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at StubHub Center.
