Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 33

Fanendo Adi flies high to celebrate penalty kick goal against LA Galaxy

The man behind the Timbers’ huge week has picked up the MLS Player of the Week honors, with the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) giving Portland forward Fanendo Adi the Week 33 award.

The Timbers took a huge step toward securing a berth in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs last week, getting road wins at Real Salt Lake on Wednesday and at the LA Galaxy on Sunday to jump up the Western Conference standings. Adi was the key man in both victories, scoring the lone goal in the win at RSL and notching two in Portland’s thrilling 5-2 win at LA over the weekend.

The two-goal performance at LA was Adi’s fifth multi-goal game of the year, bringing his season goal total to 15 – a Timbers single-season MLS club record. With 24 career goals for the Timbers, the Nigerian is now Portland’s all-time leading MLS goalscorer, surpassing Diego Valeri (23) for the record.

With the two wins, the Timbers now sit fourth in the Western Conference with a total of 50 points. Portland return to MLS action on #DecisionDay, hosting the Colorado Rapids at Providence Park at 7 pm ET on Sunday (ESPN3, MLS LIVE).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
