Kyle Beckerman sets MLS record for all-time appearances by a field player

Meet MLS' new ironman.

With the opening whistle of Saturday night's match between Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas, 33-year-old MLS veteran Kyle Beckerman set a new record for all-time appearances by an MLS field player.

Beckerman, who began his MLS career back in 2000 with the Miami Fusion, made his 379th regular-season appearance, one more than the now-retired Steve Ralston, who notched 378 appearances from 1996 to 2010 and today serves as an assistant coach with the San Jose Earthquakes.

Beckerman's 379 appearances are third all-time when goalkeepers are taken into account. Long-time MLS 'keeper Kevin Hartman logged 416 career matches, while Beckerman's RSL teammate, Nick Rimando, has 394.
