Sporting KC's Krisztian Nemeth stays red-hot with two goals in Hungary's wild Euro qualifier vs. Greece

Sporting KC's Krisztian Nemeth celebrates

Whether he's wearing Sporting blue or Hungarian red, everything Krisztian Nemeth touches turns to gold lately.

The red-hot striker bagged two goals in his country's wild 4-3 loss at Greece in Euro 16 qualifying action over the weekend, deftly finishing a flicked-on corner kick at the far post to give the Magyars a 2-1 lead, then roofing a calm finish into the top corner to push them back in front 15 minutes from full time.

It wasn't enough to book Hungary's tickets to France, as late strikes from Kostas Mitroglou and Panagiotis Kone delivered a consolation win for last-place Greece that also consigned Nemeth's squad to a two-legged playoff assignment as the third-place finisher in UEFA Group F.

Hungary has been seeded for that playoff as one of the top four out of eight participants, and on Sunday the Magyars will learn which of the four non-seeded teams (Denmark, Ireland, Norway or Slovenia) they will meet next month.

Nemeth now has four goals in his last five club and country matches combined. To date, he's notched 10 goals and six assists in 25 league appearances in his first season in MLS, adding five more goals in four US Open Cup games.
