MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Cristian Techera

The MLS Disciplinary Committee announced on Wednesday that it has suspended and fined Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Cristian Techera for violent conduct that endangered the safety of an opponent in Vancouver’s 1-1 draw at Portland last Saturday.


Techera was given a one-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount for stepping on Timbers midfielder Diego Chara in the 93rd minute of the Whitecaps draw at Providence Park (video above). Additionally, both Vancouver and Portland have been found in violation of the mass confrontation policy following their match (VIDEO).


The Disciplinary Committee also announced that it has fined Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath, Seattle Sounders midfielder Thomás and Montreal Impact assistant Enzo Concina. Heath is being punished for approaching officials at halftime of Orlando’s loss against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. He was also dismissed from the game by the referee in the 74th minute; the ejection carries a one-game suspension and additional undisclosed fine.


Thomás was fined for simulation in the 58th minute of Seattle’s loss to Colorado on Saturday (VIDEO), while Concina was hit for using offensive, abusive and insulting language towards a referee following Montreal’s loss at Sporting Kansas City last weekend.
