MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends San Jose's Innocent Emeghara, warns team for mass confrontation

The MLS Disciplinary Committee on Wednesday suspended San Jose Earthquakes forward Innocent Emeghara for one game for his 41st minute tackle on Real Salt Lake's Luke Mulholland in the two teams' encounter on Sunday.

The Committee deemed the tackle (video above) was serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent and issued the suspension and a fine of an undisclosed amount to the Earthquakes Designated Player. Emeghara was originally shown a yellow card on the play by referee Armando Villarreal.

The Disciplinary Committee also found the Earthquakes to be in violation of the league's mass confrontation policy on the play, after they surrounded Villarreal to protest the decision. As it is their first violation of the season, they will be issued an official warning.
