American Exports: Gabriel Farfan opens Chiapas scoring account in Copa MX comeback victory

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Former Philadelphia Union player Gabriel Farfan netted his first goal for Chiapas on Wednesday, equalizing in his team’s 3-2 victory over Zacatepec in the Copa MX.


Farfan struck a low, driven left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net in the 81st minute to make it 2-2, with Adrián Marín tapping in three minutes later to secure the win. The 26-year-old dual US and Mexico national played the full 90 minutes for Chiapas, in a game in which Zacatepec went up 2-0 inside 15 minutes.



Chiapas moved into third in Group 6 with the win and have an outside chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages with two victories over Pumas in the final matches of the group stage.


Also in same group, goalkeeper Bernabe Magana was an unused substitute for Pumas in its 1-0 home win against Alebrijes de Oaxaca and Juan Pablo Ocegueda, who was also left on the bench.
