Real Salt Lake continue their rebuild, trade Sebastian Velasquez to New York City FC for allocation money

Jason Kreis continues to bring his former players to New York City FC.

On Friday NYCFC sent allocation money to Real Salt Lake for Sebastian Velasquez, adding the playmaking midfielder to the growing number of former Real Salt Lake players making the move to NYCFC.

Velasquez is the fifth NYCFC player to be on the Real Salt Lake roster during their 2013 run to MLS Cup under Kreis, joining Josh Saunders, Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Ned Grabavoy and Chris Wingert.

Velasquez played in all five games during that run, scoring against the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference Semifinals, his first goal in MLS.

2014 was a down year for the Colombian, one that included just 10 total appearances. In three years with the Claret & Cobalt, he made 38 total appearances, scoring one goal and collecting five assists.

Velasquez is the fifth long-time RSL player to depart this offseason joining Nat Borchers, Grabavoy, Wingert and Robbie Findley.
