First book by former MLS star Steve Zakuani, "500 Days," needs funding to be published | SIDELINE

Steve Zakuani

A No. 1 draft pick turns into an electric winger and Seattle fan favorite as a pro, only to suffer a horrific injury that abruptly halts his rise. But he battles his way back to the field and later plays for his once bitter archrivals before finally calling it a career at age 26.

There's a book somewhere in there. And Steve Zakuani is writing it.

A Kickstarter page went up on Thursday to fund the production costs of 500 Days, Zakuani’s self-published inaugural book recounting his own personal struggles to overcome insurmountable odds, find inner strength and experience success in life.

Based upon your pledge, backers of the project will receive rewards ranging from a personal thanks from Zakuani via social media, to signed copies of 500 Days, as well as signed memorabilia, and even a meet-and-greet and dinner session with the author himself.

As of this posting, the group's initial $5,000 goal has already been reached, but the Kickstarter page is still up and running with many of the rewards still there for the taking (donate to the fund here).

And as popular as Zakuani's book could become in MLS circles, the extra cash will surely come in handy.
