American Exports: Fabian Johnson grabs another assist in Borussia Monchengladbach's Europa League romp

AMSTERDAM – Summer arrival Fabian Johnson notched his second assist in as many Europa League matches with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Thursday night, as the home side cruised to a 7-0 (10-2 aggregate) victory over FK Sarajevo.


The US international, who went the distance on left wing, set up the first of Branimir Hrgota's three goals in the 34th minute. Johnson received an outlet pass on the counter, wiggling into the area before squaring for his Foals teammate to easily tap home.



The assist was the 30th of Johnson's career, giving him sole possession of fourth place on the all-time chart for Americans playing in Europe, trailing Eddie Lewis (40), DaMarcus Beasley (33) and Earnie Stewart (33). Johnson and the rest of Gladbach will learn their group phase opponents during Friday's draw in Monaco, which will also involve Tim Howard and Everton.


Elsewhere in Europe, Brad Friedel watched on from the home bench as Tottenham sealed their advancement with a 3-0 (5-1 aggregate) defeat of AEL Limassol.
