American Exports: Brek Shea cleared to leave Stoke City on loan

US national team hopeful and Stoke City winger Brek Shea has been allowed to leave the club either on loan or permanently, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

The newspaper reported on Saturday that Shea, 24, is more likely to go out loan again this season as he continues to try and make his mark in England. The former FC Dallas star and 2011 MLS MVP candidate joined Stoke in January 2013 but has appeared in just three Premiership matches for the club since the move.

He was loaned out to League One side Barnsley in January and appeared in eight matches before he was sent back to Stoke three weeks before his loan deal expired following an incident with fans during a match against Huddersfield in March.

Shea has been linked to a potential move back to Major League Soccer, but there’s been no real movement on his return stateside. He has trained this offseason with both FC Dallas and 2015 expansion club Orlando City, but both spells were used to stay fit before his return to Europe for the upcoming season.
