Dust storm plays havoc with US Open Cup match at PPL Park | THE SIDELINE

Union-Revs Dust Storm

The US Open Cup match between the Philadelphia Union and New England Revolution was delayed Tuesday night not because of a summer thunderstorm or even a rare Atlantic Coast tornado.

Instead, the referee stopped play because of the the dust rolling in from the adjacent unpaved parking lot at PPL Park. Fans and players had to get inside in order to cover their eyes from the overwhelming storm -- which continued with a torrential downpour, lightning, thunder, and upwards of 60 mile-an-hour winds. The postponement lasted about an hour before the Union went on to post a 2-0 win.
