Why does John Oliver hate America? HBO funnyman reveals his true colors | SIDELINE

We've taken John Oliver in, dragging him across the pond from his native England and thus saving him from a life of gray skies and singing chimney sweeps.

We've laughed at his jokes on The Daily Show, and now we've given him his own show on HBO – which you should absolutely watch, because it's blindingly funny. We've nodded as he's eviscerated FIFA, winced as he's called the news media to task, and cringed countless times as he deconstructed the hypocrisy of our politicians.

What do we mean by that?

And here's England:

Enjoy the World Cup, John. In the words of another Daily Show alum – one who truly loves America – you're on notice.
