The San Jose Earthquakes will have a different look about them when they step on the field in 2014.
On Thursday evening, the team unveiled its new logo and jerseys for the 2014 team season as part of the club's 40th anniversary celebrations.
In what Quakes president Dave Kaval described as a "reunification" of the club in a letter to fans, both the new logo (right) and the Quakes' 2014 away jersey hearken back to the team's 1974 foundation as a member ofthe North American Soccer League while the blue top/black shorts/blue socks combination of the home uniform will resemble the look the team sported in MLS from 2000-05.
“This is a momentous day for the San Jose Earthquakes as we continue to shape the identity of this club to match its rich history and community ties,” said Kaval in a statement. “After consulting with fans, former players, staff and community stakeholders, we established three pillars for the club: Unity, Devotion, Heritage. Each of those pillars was integrated into the design of our new logo and will define the organization going forward.”
