American Exports: Daniel Williams registers another strong performance for EPL hopefuls Reading

AMSTERDAM – The World Cup is only six months away and former USMNT starter Daniel Williams knows it.

On Saturday in the English Championship, the 24-year-old German-American pitched in with another strong performance in the middle as Reading edged out a 1-0 triumph at Huddersfield Town.

The Royals midfielder played well on both sides of the ball in a full shift, but went into the referee's book near halftime in a result that lifted Reading to fifth place.

Huddersfield youngster Duane Holmes worked cleanly without great effect over the final 17 minutes as the Terriers dropped to 12th.

Also, Eric Lichaj went unused in Nottingham Forest's 0-0 stalemate against visiting Ipswich Town. The Tricky Trees stayed winless at home in five as they slipped two spots to seventh place.

Over in the Bundesliga, Timothy Chandler and FC Nürnberg remained winless after conceding three times in the final half hour to settle for a 3-3 share at Hannover 96. It was largely a solid shift for Chandler, but he was among those at fault on the Reds' first goal.

Though it was hinted during the week that Hannover skipper Steve Cherundolo could start to create a duel of US right backs, he watched on from the home dugout.

For next-to-last Nürnberg, it was a golden chance to climb out of the danger zone missed. Meanwhile, with just one win in their last 10, Hannover dropped to 12th place.
