Brazuca ball teaser from adidas for 2014 World Cup

Adidas is giving 2014 World Cup balls to Brazilian newborns in interesting promotion | SIDELINE

Want one of adidas' brand new brazuca World Cup soccer balls for free? Travel back in time, then forward, and be born in Brazil on Tuesday, December 3 — the day the 2014 World Cup ball will be unveiled — and adidas will give you one.

Or, slightly more practically, move to Brazil and give birth to a child tomorrow and steal his or hers.

Adidas came up with the idea for this promotion — for which you will need to present an official birth certificate for redemption — from the notion that all Brazilian children are born with a soccer ball at their feet. The giveaway, however sadly, is limited to those born in Brazil only.

WikiAnswers estimates that 370,000 newborn babies enter the world each day, which apparently would be too many free soccer balls to give away.

Adidas will unveil brazuca, the 2014 FIFA World Cup match ball, Tuesday night at 6 pm ET with a 3D light projection launch event held at the iconic Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro.

The name "brazuca" is an informal local term which means "Brazilian," or to describe the Brazilian way of life.

This giveaway leads us to wonder just one thing: given its tie-in to Brazilian lore, what might be a similar promotion for the controversial 2022 World Cup in Qatar? The comments section is yours, readers.
