Chicago Fire defender Hunter Jumper is in good health and spirits after being involved in a serious car accident on Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway on Tuesday morning.
The second-year player was on his way from his parents' house to train with the University of Virginia men's soccer team, his alma mater, when he hit a patch of black ice and lost control, with his car eventually coming to a rest after flipping and hitting a rock.
After getting out of the wreck, Jumper was able to wave down a passing car and make it to the hospital, where he was able to get in touch with his family and UVA teammates.
"I already feel like the accident has changed my life," Jumper told Chicago-Fire.com "I’m so thankful to be alive and to have my family."
The 24-year-old reportedly suffered a concussion and some bruises.
“We are very relieved that Hunter is going to be okay. It is a blessing that he suffered only minor injuries," read a statement from the Fire. "The most important thing for Hunter right now is to rest and regain his full strength and enjoy the holidays with his family.”
