AMSTERDAM – It has been another busy Saturday for Americans working overseas, with Geoff Cameron starring as Stoke City got well with a 2-0 home win over 10-man Sunderland.
Among his side's standouts on the day, the right back picked up a "second" assist on the 30th-minute winning goal. Cameron's lead pass sent Steven N'Zonzi running before he teed up Charlie Adam for the opener.
Brek Shea went unused by the victors, and Jozy Altidore played only the final five minutes for Sunderland.
Stoke climbed out of the drop zone thanks to their first EPL win since August, while the Black Cats slipped back into the league basement.
Elsewhere, Tim Howard and Everton rallied twice before blowing a late lead in a wild 3-3 draw with derby guests Liverpool. The US netminder, who had little to say about any of the goals, logged two saves. His best work of the day came to deny a point-blank Luis Suárez header with the game tied at two in the 79th minute. The result kept fifth place Everton unbeaten in five.
Down a level in the Championship, Tim Ream went the distance as warming Bolton rose to 15th place after a 1-0 triumph at Watford. In addition to extending their overall unbeaten run to eight games, Wanderers have now won three consecutive away games.
Eric Lichaj worked the first half of Nottingham Forest's 1-1 share with visiting league leaders Burnley. The Tricky Trees remained in fifth place, eight points adrift of the promotion places.
Reading midfielder Daniel Williams returned from two months on the shelf by coming on at the break in a 0-0 stalemate at Blackburn. Winless in four, the Royals fell two rungs to eighth.
Queens Park Rangers defender Oguchi Onyewu watched on as the hosts scored a 1-0 derby win over Charlton. On the strength of their fourth win in a row at Loftus Road, third place QPR pulled level on points with the top.
Duane Holmes went unused as Huddersfield Town hung on for 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday. The win lifted the Terriers to 13th place.
Turning to Bundesliga action, Jermaine Jones and Schalke survived a seesaw 3-3 draw away to his former club Eintracht Frankfurt. The sixth place Miners squandered an early two-goal lead before eventually grabbing a late equalizer.
Timothy Chandler went all 90 minutes as FC Nürnberg posted a 1-1 draw at Wolfsburg. Though still winless on the season, the point was enough to lift the visitors out of the league cellar.
Hoffenheim left winger Fabian Johnson worked a full shift in his return from injury, a 2-0 defeat at Augsburg. With three straight losses, the away side slipped to 13th place.
Over in the Eredivisie, Aron Jóhannsson struck for his 10th league goal of the campaign, but it wasn't enough as nine-man AZ Alkmaar settled for a 2-2 draw with guests Roda JC.
With the hosts already short two players and the game deadlocked at one-a-side, the No. 20 shirt accepted a long pass before beating a defender to fire home six minutes before the break. Jóhannsson would depart on 78 minutes, well before Roda leveled near the death to keep AZ from reclaiming the penthouse.
Next door in Belgium's Jupiler League, Sacha Kljestan and holders Anderlecht suffered a 2-1 loss at Charleroi. The Mauves remained in fourth place despite their first league defeat in six.
Finally, in the Danish Superliga, Conor O'Brien came on as an injury sub just seven minutes into Odense BK's 1-1 draw at Randers FC. Without a win in four games, OB dropped two places to eighth.
