AMSTERDAM – Reading midfielder Daniel Williams was a stoppage-time hero on Wednesday, setting up the 1-0 winner against visiting Leeds United in English Championship play.

The US international (above) made a proper bid to open the scoring in the 16th minute, with his strike from distance drawing a good save from Whites netminder Paddy Kenny. The game remained scoreless until the seventh minute of added time, when Williams flicked on a Royston Drenthe free kick for Adam Le Fondre to bag the decider.

The victory pushed the Royals' unbeaten streak at the Madejski to 13 games, while also lifting them five rungs to seventh place in the English second flight.

Meanwhile, Schalke did good Champions League business without suspended midfielder Jermaine Jones, blanking guests Steaua Bucharest 3-0 to race to the top of Group E.
