Seattle Sounders' Obafemi Martins voted Week 29 MLS Player of the Week

The Seattle Sounders jumped into the top spot in the Supporters' Shield race this past Friday, and they did so in large part because of the performance from Obafemi Martins.

The veteran Nigerian forward chipped in goal and an assist as Seattle hammered Real Salt Lake 2-0 to overtake first place in the Western Conference. Martins set the tone with the opener just three minutes in before helping setting up Lamar Neagle's first-half insurance goal.

That showing earned him the vote as Week 29's MLS Player of the Week. (See how the North American Soccer Reporters voted here.)

Martins is the second Sounders player to nab the award this season, joining Week 12 winner and fellow striker Eddie Johnson.
