LA Galaxy-Portland Timbers headline projected MLS Cup Playoff scenarios after Week 29

LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane squares up with Portland's Donovan Ricketts and Will Johnson

Everyone's looking at that red line.

The MLS Cup Playoffs are a mere six-and-a-half weeks away and, as the regular season ticks down, the postseason picture is getting clearer. At least somewhat.

Sixteen teams are still within striking distance of making the 10-team field in a close race to the finish line. That'll make for an exciting run-in. But if the playoffs were to begin today, the matchups would be mouth-watering.

Here's the rundown after Week 29:

KNOCKOUT ROUND:

Houston Dynamo (East No. 4) vs. Chicago Fire (East No. 5)
LA Galaxy (West No. 4) vs. Portland Timbers (West No. 5)

CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS:

New York Red Bulls (East No. 1) vs. Houston-Chicago winner
Montreal Impact (East No. 2) vs. Sporting Kansas City (East No. 3)

Seattle Sounders (West No. 1) vs. LA-Portland winner
Real Salt Lake (West No. 2) vs. Colorado Rapids (West No. 3)
