World Cup: USMNT book ticket to Brazil with win over Mexico, Honduras win over Panama

USMNT qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup

It's official: the US men's national team will be among the 32 teams contesting the 2014 FIFA World Cup next summer in Brazil.

After the USMNT scored another memorable 2-0 over Mexico earlier on Tuesday evening, the team's attention turned to south Honduras, who could put the US in Brazil with a win over Panama, or a draw. In the end, Roberto Chen's injury-time equalizer dampened spirits in Tegucigalpa, but it was enough to give the US a guaranteed place in the top three of the Hexagonal standings and a plane ticket in Brazil alongside Costa Rica.

The draw also lifted Panama into a tie with Mexico for fourth place – good for a playoff against New Zealand – and sets up a mouthwatering clash between the two teams at the Estadio Azteca on Oct. 11, when qualifying resumes.
