American Exports: Monterrey's Alonso Hernandez continues first-team integration with Copa MX start

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – US U-20 World Cup striker Alonso Hernandez continued his gradual integration into Monterrey’s first team on Wednesday, going 72 minutes in Los Rayados’ 2-0 home win over Altamira in the Copa MX.


Hernandez featured on the right side of the attack, pressing the ball high up the field as Monterrey dominated the game. The El Paso, Texas, native forced a solid save from the Atlamira ‘keeper in the 61st with a shot from outside the penalty area in his second start in the Copa MX this season.



Monterrey’s victory moved them to eight points in Group 1 after three games played and on course for the knockout stages of the competition.


For city rivals Tigres UANL, Jonathan Bornstein was not included in the 18 for their 2-1 win at Zacatepec 1948 in Group 2.
