GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Former US Under-20 winger Victor Garza is currently in Turkey trialing with Samsunspor after his contract with Liga MX side Tigres UANL ran down.

“[Samsunspor] got a look at me and they liked my style of play, but there is nothing concrete yet,” the 21-year-old explained to MLSsoccer.com by phone from Turkey on Monday.

The Texan says he is talking to other clubs in Turkey and a couple of other European countries about a possible move and weighing up the best opportunity.

The U.S. Soccer Bradenton Academy alum didn’t get any minutes in Liga MX play for the Monterrey club and only briefly debuted in the Copa Libertadores, but Garza isn’t holding it against the club.

“Tigres is a team I always dreamed of playing for, but the chances of playing were always minimal for youngsters,” lamented Garza. “I have to look for other opportunities in my career, hoping some day I'll be back with Tigres.”

Over in Europe, Garza admits it has been hard to adapt to a slightly different style of play, as well as a new language and culture, but he is focused on staying positive.

“It has been a little difficult,” Garza said. “Not being able to understand the language is the complicated part, but I like the challenge and will work hard to get success.”
