Houston Dynamo say there's no truth to rumor linking them with English forward Clayton Donaldson

Reports surfaced Monday that the Houston Dynamo were keeping tabs on forward Clayton Donaldson of English League One club Brentford. However, Dynamo president Chris Canetti shot the report down to MLSsoccer.com Monday afternoon, saying there was no truth to it.

Donaldson supposedly has interest from clubs in the English Championship and League One as well as from fellow MLS side D.C. United according to Sky Sports.

The report is the latest linking Houston to a striker, indicative of the time of year that is referred to as the silly season for a reason, as this is the time of year MLS teams are linked with a player out of the wilderness.

Houston were also recently linked to former West Ham striker Carlton Cole, but nothing has come from those rumors as the English striker has since been linked with a move to West Brom to stay in the EPL.

Canetti told MLSsoccer.com in a Q&A last month that the club would have to battle salary-cap issues to make a deal happen this summer. Houston made a move in that direction a week ago in cutting ties with Brazilian midfielder Luiz Camargo. That clears an international spot and helped clear some cap space for a potential summer acquisition.
