Dom Dwyer's record-shattering loan to Orlando City SC is over, with the young English striker recalled to Sporting Kansas City.
Sporting president Robb Heineman tweeted first word of the recall on Thursday morning, just hours after Orlando City were eliminated 5-1 by the Chicago Fire in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

The club officially confirmed the recall, and said Dwyer would arrive in Kansas City on Thursday.
"After the latest round of the US Open Cup, we have recalled Dom Dwyer from Orlando City SC," manager Peter Vermes said in a statement. "Dom has been very productive and in good form with our USL PRO affiliate and we hope he can continue that same form back in Kansas City."

Dwyer, Sporting's first-round MLS SuperDraft pick in 2012, was one of four players loaned to Orlando City under the new affiliation between the two clubs. He scored a USL PRO-record 15 league goals and also netted three times in Cup play.
Under the terms of the loan, he and the other three – goalkeeper Jon Kempin, defender Yann Songo'o and midfielder Christian Duke – did not play when Orlando City eliminated Sporting 1-0 in the fourth round of the Open Cup.
The agreement allows any of the loaned players to be recalled at any time, but also requires Kansas City to have a minimum of four players on loan to the Lions. Sporting manager Peter Vermes has said the club has other loan candidates, but they've not been publicly identified.
