No player is fully content with being an unused subtitute, but Jerry Bengtson has reportedly taken his unhappiness to another level.
The New England Revolution DP striker has abandoned Honduras' national team camp after being left on the bench in Los Catrachos' recent 2-0 win over Jamaica in World Cup qualifying, according to Honduran outlet Diez.
Bengtson traveled with his Honduran teammates to the United States ahead of their match with the US men's national team next Tuesday, but allegedly departed for Boston from Houston instead of traveling with the rest of the team to Utah.
According to another report, Bengtson was allegedly so frustrated by being left out of the lineup that he complained and berated head coach Luis Fernando Suárez, an action that was not supported by the rest of the Honduras squad.
Bengtson's decision to leave means the Hondurans will be without the player who netted the winner the last time they faced off against the US in a 2-1 victory in World Cup qualifying back in February.
The Revolution play at Vancouver on Saturday night (10 pm ET; watch LIVE online). Bengtson has struggled for his club side this year, netting just once in 11 appearances.
