New York Red Bulls fans rallying to pay Mike Petke's fine for him | THE SIDELINE

Mike Petke after loss to Montreal

New York Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke probably doesn't need your help in paying his $2,000 fine from the MLS Disciplinary Committee, leveed against him on Friday for critical comments made about match officials following the Red Bulls' 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew last Sunday.

But that isn't stopping the Empire Supporters Club from passing the collection plate around because they feel their man has been hard done by.

They've launched an IndieGoGo campaign on Petke's behalf, which is currently set at a goal of $500, to pay their head boss's fine from the league. This isn't the first time the ESC has looked to have Petke's back in terms of being fined. In 2000, Petke was fined $500 by the league for a post-goal celebration, and the ESC together offered to pay Petke's fine. The league, though, rejected their dollars and so they donated it to charity.

If you're a Red Bulls fan, it might a worthy cause to donate to, because as the ESC say on the IndieGoGo page, the league again isn't likely to accept their money in Petke's name. The sum of dollars will once again be donated to a charity of Petke's choosing. They're also offering ESC swag based upon incremental donation amounts. Way to actively have your guy's back, ESC.
