Montreal Impact's Marco Di Vaio earns Player of the Week nod for hat-trick heroics against Union

Marco Di Vaio

Marco Di Vaio ran riot in Montreal's 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, and it's no surprise that his hat-trick wizardry has drawn MLS Player of the Week honors, as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters. See how the North American Soccer Reporters voted here.

It took the Italian veteran barely half an hour to notch his three strikes at Stade Saputo. The first arrived less than two minutes in on a left-footed one-timer, the second came after he evaded the Philly offside trap and chipped Zac MacMath and his third was a close-range finish set up by an excellent cross from Andrés Romero.

The sensational display ran Di Vaio's season total to nine, level with the Union's Jack McInerney at the top of the MLS Golden Boot standings. It was also Di Vaio's first multi-goal outing in MLS.

The 37-year-old poacher is the first Impact player to win the Player of the Week award this season.
