Why did NFL star Matt Schaub and Mexico's Chepo de la Torre pose together for a photo?

The No. 8 is likely all they have in common.

But it was enough for a memorable photo-op on Monday afternoon between Houston Texans quaterback Matt Schaub and Mexican national team manager José Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre.

De la Torre hosted a news conference on Monday as part of a visit to Houston ahead of the May 31 match against Nigeria at Reliant Stadium, home of the NFL's Texans.

The press conference, which HoustonTexans.com notes was "Spanish-speaking," featured a jersey exchange betwen the Texans' No. 8 and "Chepo," who also wore the No. 8 during his playing days.

“It’s very cool to be here for this event in preparation for their match at the end of next month,” Schaub told HoustonTexans.com. “To meet a guy like coach Chepo knowing what his career was like and how great a player he was and wore No. 8, it’s pretty cool to receive a No. 8 [Mexico] jersey of his with my name on it.”

What exactly was Chepo's career like? Well he played for five different Mexican clubs from 1984 to 1999 and also had a stop at Real Oviedo in Spain, all while wearing the Mexican national team jersey 28 times.

The 31-year-old Schaub, for his part, is a Pro Bowler and starting QB for the Texans who is entering his 10th season in the NFL.
